BASKET MAKING - WEED BASKET

Learn the skill of basket making by making your own clever little basket designed for holding dried flowers,
candles, toothbrushes or just about anything. Students will learn continuous weave and row on row weaving
using reed, and will leave class with a basket of their own. Approximate finished size – 6” tall and 5” wide at base.

Date: June 19

Hours: 9 am – 1 pm

DUTCH OVEN COOKING

Designed for students with little or no Dutch oven cooking experience, this class introduces the basic skills
required to cook with Dutch ovens.  Students will learn to cook in Dutch ovens by preparing entrees, breads,
vegetables, and dessert.  Other topics will include cleaning and caring for Dutch ovens and the history of
Dutch oven cooking. We will be dining on our delicious homemade meals.

Date: June 26

CORN HUSK DOLL MAKING

We get many good things from corn: corn on the cob, popcorn, sweetner, starch and even ethanol to power
engines. Native American children also had fun making dolls from the husk of the corn. In this class we will
learn how to make a traditional Iroquois cornhusk doll. A great class for parent/relative and child (under 8 years
old must be accompanied by an adult). Each participant will leave with their very own cornhusk doll.

SPINNING WITH A DROP SPINDLE

The dreaded drop spindle need not be feared at all. All it takes is a little practice and a sense of humor.
Spin along with Badger the sheep who is providing the wool.  By the time you are through with class,
you will be well on your way to creating your own handspun yarn.
Use our spindles or bring your own.

BASKET MAKING - NEW ENGLAND TOTE  (Penobscot style)

Make a beautiful large size market basket whose origins are Native American. This version was designed
by Diane Stanton of Massachusetts and has two swing straps for carrying. Made of reed with shaker tape
for straps the finished size will be approximately: 12 ½” x 12” x 9”

Date: July 10

Hours: 9 am – 5 pm (please bring bag lunch)

BEGINNING BLACKSMITHING

Watching the hot glowing metal take shape under the pounding force of your hammer is a powerful experience.
Explore a variety of forging techniques and build your blacksmithing skills in this 2 day class. Learn basic skills
making nails, S hooks and learn how to care for a forge and the equipment.  Class sizes are small to allow for
more individualized instruction.

Date: July 10-11

Hours: 12 pm – 4 pm each day

INTERMEDIATE BLACKSMITHING

Our Intermediate class is for students who have some prior experience in blacksmithing basics. We will cover more
advanced versions of bending, twisting and joinery as well as decorative elements. Forge welding, tempering and
metallurgy relevant to the blacksmith will also be covered. Class sizes are limited to allow for more individualized instruction.
